| LINGK: How does your programming address the challenges faced by our youth, i.e., drug abuse, low self-esteem, declining moral values, etc? PAUL. We launched our youth network JCTV to target our vast youth culture and to reach out to young people who need answers. Our programs range from the latest in Christian music videos, to extreme sports shows, to reality programs, and every show focuses on the particular needs and issues pertinent to teens and young adults today. Since its launch JCTV has become one of the most popular youth networks on TV. LINGK: In the process of developing new shows is your relationship to the general market a consideration? PAUL. Our major consideration is always our diverse viewing audience and what there needs and desires are. Certainly trends in secular television bleed over into faith-based broadcasting, and were quick to pick up on any positive trends and make them work on the faith-based side. LINGK: How has TBN embraced the movement toward reality-based TV? PAUL. One of our most popular music shows this past year has been Gifted, where Christian musicians compete for a recording contract. Weve had some awesome viewer response. Another popular program airing on both TBN and JCTV is Travel the Road, which follows two young men over 18-months, through 25 countries, across 40,000 miles as they pursue frontline mission work. JCTV itself has several quality reality-based shows, like FM, which takes viewers into the fast-paced world of a big-city Christian rock radio station. And theres Pivitplex, which documents the tour of an up and coming Christian band. LINGK: What impact does TBN have on the international community, especially in countries where the Christian faith is not readily embraced? PAUL. TBN is the most watched Christiannetwork worldwide. We have a presence on every major continent and in many countries not open to the gospel. And we have a team of men and women working non-stop to introduce TBN to new countries and locales. One of our biggest victories is the healing Channel, which takes the gospel message to Middle Eastern countries where people would not normally have access to Christian TV. |
