| LINGK: How does Habitat get sponsors like Whirlpool, Office Depot, and other corporations to commit supplies, equipment, and appliances? RAINEY: Habitat has a great brand name. We now know that our brand and logo is recognized around the world, equivalent to the Nike swoosh. Corporations look at our brand and figure it would be great to work for an organization like Habitat. It's great marketing. Whirlpool called us and asked how they could get involved and they bought Lowe's on board. Theyve become a tremendous partnership. Some corporations find it hard to see a natural connection, so we work with them to help them see it. We have people on staff who work with corporations to develop sponsorships. Some of them contact us. Sometimes we recruit them, but the partnerships are limitless. One of the things that we're doing now with the National Association of Home Builders, is a project in which we built four hundred houses within a week. We had a blast doing it this year and we're going to do it again next year. It's a tremendous opportunity for builders to get involved. The builders go to their suppliers, the suppliers go their contacts, the next thing you know, there are all kinds of partnerships that blossom. We look for church partnership as well. We are presently working with several national church denominations. So far, our biggest commitment is from the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, which is a corporation handling financial issues for people's lives, savings and insurance. Thrivent is building housing around this country at an incredible rate, It's one of our most successful and exciting partnerships. It shows that not only is possible to have successful business partnerships but faith partnerships as well. [Make comments on Lingk's blog. I digg this | del.icio.us | add to redit | |
